Don’t Compare Yourself to Others!
The path to Black Belt is very personal. The important thing for everyone to know is that there is a path. When people watch those of us who have already achieved Black Belt, they sometimes compare themselves to those of us who have spent 5 years or 35 years getting to where we are in the martial arts. That is the big mistake. The path is defined and easy to follow, but takes a good attitude and the ability to commit to something that is important to you. You do not have to have a natural talent for it. We will teach techniques to you that seem foreign at first but become comfortable and eventually show off your talent.
There will be many bumps in the road, just like there would be in any important accomplishment in life. The bumps are there to make us stronger and better. Anything that is worth achieving will take time and effort, but we do our very best, as instructors, to be your guide through your journey. Nobody can do this without the help of others. That is the amazing part of the martial arts. People who have achieved Black Belt, got their through the help of others. So, in turn, they are generous with their time and compassion towards others and want more than anything to help them on their journey. Our Black Belts are an extended family that are all here to support you.
Good instructors do their best to make the path to Black Belt challenging, interesting and gratifying. Every student, whether it is a child, a teen or an adult, will find times in their karate training when they wonder if it is worth the effort. It is totally worth the effort! When a student is in the process of any goal, whether it is in Karate, in studies for school or on the job, they have to focus on focusing on the end result and then follow the steps to get them there. They need to talk to their teachers, family, or mentors to find out how to overcome the obstacles that threaten to stop them before they achieve their goals.
In Karate classes, we will spend every class making sure you are on the right path. Sometimes the achievements take a bit longer but they do come. Black Belt is totally achievable by anyone who wants it. It is our job to get you there. We have done this. We know how to do this. If you rely on us, communicate with us and just come to class, we will get you there!
